GABA Ingredient Shows Sleep Benefits:
A new study finds GABA (Gamma-aminobutyric acid) may aid people in falling asleep faster. Researchers also found longer, successive deep, non-REM, stages of sleep, known to be the most beneficial portion of the sleep cycle, with GABA supplementation.

GABA, technically an amino acid, is a neurotransmitter that blocks impulses between nerve cells in the brain. Low levels of GABA may be linked to:

- Chronic pain
Researchers suspect that GABA may boost mood or have a calming, relaxing effect on the nervous system.
10 people participated in this study. Participants had an average age of 37.7 years of age. According to the PSQI (Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index) all participants were determined to have a high probability of sleep disorders. The study lasted three weeks. Blood analysis showed a rapid absorption of the GABA supplement usually within 30 minutes of being administered. The remaining trace levels of GABA dropped off rapidly after that time. Participants reported waking up feeling alert and refreshed after supplementation.
According to a 2014 Consumer survey Insomnia was tied as the fourth most prominent health concern for Americans. Stress, tiredness and fatigue and allergy ranked higher.
