According to a new study, adding Acai pulp to your smoothies may support heart health and improve vascular function.
Over 23 health men between the ages of 30 and 65 participated in this study. The men were randomly assigned to eat a high fat breakfast either with Acai or without Acai. Results showed a 1.4% improvement in flow-mediated dilation (FMD) which measures blood blow and vascular health in the group drinking the smoothie with the Acai added.
Acai berries have long been an important part of the diet of Indian tribes. Acai berries me from an Amazonian palm tree and have the taste of a tropical berry with the appearance of a purple grape. Acai berries have been shown to contain powerful antioxidant properties and contain a high level of anthocyanins.
Further intervention studies are needed.
